The RTV silicones does not adhere to anything except itself. With the Vaseline paste you can make 2-sided molds and be able to separate the 2 halves once the second part of the silicone mold has already cured.
A thin layer is applied to all areas of the silicone mold, taking care not to apply it on top of the original to be copied, as the silicone copies so well that even the Vaseline marks would be seen.
Vaseline paste can also be used as a release agent, since thanks to its greasy feel, it prevents most resins from adhering to surfaces coated with Vaseline.
